1 Door Installation Guide (ACS100)

1 Door Installation Guide (ACS100)

Getting Started

Unpacking

Carefully remove all items from the shipping box and inspect. Make sure there are no broken parts or missing items. If you received multiple units, they may be labels that identify each unit according to information shared during the sales process.

Working Area

Make sure the area where the control panel is being installed is safe and clear of debris and hazards. Make sure the doorway is also a safe working environment. You may need to warn patrons that the door will be blocked from time to time during installation.

Read Ahead

Please read this guide in its entirety prior to starting. Hardware warranty is void if instructions are not followed and hardware is damaged.

The methods described in this guide assumes Latitude / Rhōmb as the sole access control provider for a non-retrofit situation. A retrofit situation consists of cases where this system may be running in parallel with another system or connecting to existing locks and power.

Physical Inspection

Identify the location where the ACS100 device will be mounted. It should be:

  • On the OUTSIDE of the locked door it is responsible for opening.
  • On the same side of the door as the door pull handle.
  • Placed in secure area to avoid tampering and/or be out of reach.
  • Mount within 6" of the same height as the door handle - typically 36"-42" from the ground.

Identify cable routing.

  • Any visible cable should be run 8' or higher.
  • Cable below 8' should be in conduit, wire mold, or inside a wall.
  • Distance between devices includes both the span of the runs in addition to the vertical distance.

Mounting

The device mounts on a standard one-gang mount, which is the same size as an outlet or light switch junction box.

The unit should be mounted between 34 inches and 48 inches from the ground. For US clients, this is ADA code for door handles, and readers must follow suit since they are a form of ingress. Read and confirm with local regulations before mounting your reader.

Slim Door Frames

If the door frame is narrow and there is no butting wall, such as a storefront door next to a glass window, we suggest mounting a single-gang box to the SIDE of the door frame on the window side.
  1. Drill a hole in the side of the door frame at the height you want to mount the box
  2. Drill a matching hole on the side of the single-gang box
  3. Use self-tapping metal screws to mount the box to the side of the door frame
Alert
Make sure the junction box is flush with or protrudes from the front of the door frame.  Do not sink the box behind the front of the frame, or the device will not fit in the box.
Use self-tapping screws on the side of the box OR 3M double-sided tape
Mounted on the side of the door frame
Make sure the front of the junction box is flush with the front of the door frame

Connection

Use the wire colors according to the diagrams provided by the reader type. It is recommended that Dolphin or WAGO connectors are used to join wires between the reader pigtail and cable going to the control panel. Please avoid using wire nuts. Dolphin connectors are good for fitting into tight spaces, however, they are permanent connections and the wire must be cut to redo a connection. WAGO connectors are preferred because they work with a wide range of wire gauges and don't require wires to be cut to redo a connection, but they may not fit in some smaller areas.

Using WAGO and Dolphin connectors

Testing

A test credential is provided in the plastic bag containing piece parts. This fob has been pre-programmed with the system; allowing door functionality to be tested without the control panel being connected to the internet.

  1. Power the system and wait about 3 minutes for the system to fully boot prior to performing any tests.
  2. With the test fob in hand, go to the reader and scan the fob.
    • Did the light on the reader turn GREEN for 5 seconds?
    • Did the door unlock and stay unlocked for 5 seconds?
  3. Contact Latitude Customer Support to complete testing or troubleshoot any issues: +1 (866) 739-8588 option 2.
