Eagle Eye - IP Camera Connectivity Troubleshooting
In the event one or many cameras (but not all) go offline, please perform the following procedures:
Eagle Eye Connection Diagram Reboot the Eagle Eye system.
- Do the following in this order:
- Unplug the power for the Eagle Eye unit
- Unplug the power for the network switch that cameras are connected
- Wait at least 20 seconds
- Plug in the power to the Eagley Eye unit ONLY and wait for 1 minute
- Plug in the power to the network switch
- The system may take 5-10 minutes to fully respond with the Eagle Eye Networks cloud application
Individual Camera Troubleshooting Steps:
- First, unplug cameras until one of the offline cameras is identified
- A LIVE camera will go offline in about 3-5 minutes after it is unplugged from the switch. When that happens make note of the camera and the cable it belongs to.
- No cameras will go offline when an OFFLINE camera is unplugged from the switch. Make note of the cable, then plug into a port where a live camera was once plugged.
- Allow 5-10 minutes for the camera to come online.
- If the camera comes ONLINE, then we may have a bad Ethernet Port on the switch (see #2 below)
- If the camera remains OFFLINE, then we may have a bad camera or cable (see #3 below)
- Confirm a bad port on a switch
- The only way to confirm a bad port on a switch is to plug in a cable from a LIVE camera into the suspicious port (the port where the offline camera was originally connected).
- After about 10 minutes of the camera doesn't come online, then we can determine a bad port and the switch will need to be replaced.
- If there are open ports on the switch, try connecting the OFFLINE camera to the open ports on the switch.
- Allow about 10 minutes for the camera to come online.
- Tracing a bad CABLE or CAMERA
- Dismount the OFFLINE camera and disconnect from the cable.
- Bring the camera over to the switch location and, using a short patch cable, connect the camera into an available PoE port on the switch
- Allow about 10 minutes to boot and connect.
- If the camera comes ONLINE, then the camera is good and there is an issue with the cable between the PoE switch and the camera location (see #4).
- If the camera remains OFFLINE, then the camera needs to be replaced.
- Fixing a bad Cable
- The most common issue with a bad cable is its termination - the RJ45 connectors
- Start at one end of the cable and re-terminate, using the Pinout diagram below
- If re-terminating the cable doesn't resolve the issue, then look for specific areas where the cable could be compromised, such as a screw or nail or a major kink (solid copper will break).
