Programming Output Mode of Farpointe PIN Pad Reader

Programming Output Mode of Farpointe PIN Pad Reader

Overview

The Farpointe P-620/640 readers have two output modes, 8-bit Burst and 26-bit Wiegand.  The default mode is 8-bit Burst, which works with access control systems that manage PIN codes separate from Card IDs, such as Brivo OnAir.  If Card IDs, meaning a credential found in the card bank, is to be used as a PIN code, then the reader must be programmed to be in 26-bit Wiegand mode.

Programming Card

The box containing the reader also contains a programming card.  The card is printed on the front with "WiegandKeypadDataMode 1089".  If you need this card, please contact Latitude Security Support (support@latitudesecurity.com) and a programming card can be mailed to you.

Programming from 8-bit Burst Mode to 26-bit Wiegand Mode

  1. Cycle the power of the access control system, which will cycle the power of the reader.
  2. Present the Wiegand Keypad Data Mode control card to the reader (beeps four times).
  3. Enter the facility code to be applied to the keypad (FC = 0 to 255); default is usually 0.  If an unacceptable facility code is entered the reader will give out one long beep.
  4. Press the #-key (reader beeps four times to indicate success).
  5. Press the *-key (should beep four times to indicate 26-bit mode is enabled).
To verify the keypad mode of the reader press the *-key.  If the reader beeps once, the keypad mode is 8-bit Burst.  If the reader beeps 4-times, the keypad mode is 26-bit Wiegand.
