Rhōmb Check-In

Rhōmb Check-In

Rhōmb In-Person Check-In Setup

In the event you need to operate a front desk or perform in-person customer check-in, Rhōmb has a handy solution that doesn't require someone to be logged into the Rhōmb administration site.  The solution consists of a USB desktop barcode reader (click here to purchase), and Windows service application.

Required Hardware

The first step is to purchase the barcode reader, which Rhōmb has certified to work with this Windows application.  You can purchase it directly from the Latitude Security Solution online store at: https://store.latitudesecurity.com/zebra-usb-barcode-scanner/

Barcode Reader Installation Instructions

The barcode reader comes from the factory setup as a USB keyboard wedge.  This mode will not work with the Windows application; therefore, the barcode reader needs to be programmed to utilize the PC's COM Port:
  1. Connect the barcode reader using the supplied USB cable to the PC being used for check-in.  Make sure the other end of the cable is plugged into the back of the barcode reader.  You'll hear a series of beeps when it powers on.
  2. Scan the following barcode:
Scan to program the reader to utilize the COM port

Notes
Before installing Rhōmb Check-In, please have your USB barcode scanner plugged in to your PC.
  1. Download the latest version of Rhōmb Check-In by clicking here. You may need to click an additional download button on the OneDrive page.
  2. Open the file and run "setup.exe". You may need to select "More info" and "Run anyway" if Windows blocks the file from being run.
  3. Click through the installation wizard. The default settings should be sufficient. However, if you have multiple users on your PC, you may need to install for all users instead of "just me".
  4. Once Rhōmb Check-In is installed, run it from your Start menu or the newly created desktop shortcut. Rhōmb Check-In should automatically open each time you restart your PC or log in.

  5. Upon running the application for the first time, you may be prompted to install the .NET Desktop Runtime from Microsoft. Use the link in the pop-up to download the runtime and install it.

Site Configuration

The first time you open Rhōmb Check-In, you should get two notifications. One should read COM port opened-- this means that the scanner app has identified a serial device which it thinks is your scanner. You will also get a notification reading Missing configuration. In order for Rhōmb Check-In to function, you must scan your site-specific configuration code, which was included with the scanner.
Upon scanning the configuration, you should receive a notification reading New configuration saved. Now, each time you restart your PC or open Rhōmb Check-In, it should automatically load your site information. If you scan any Rhōmb QR code, it should check the user in on your dashboard, and show you a notification with the user's name and membership information.

Troubleshooting

Four long beeps a few seconds after scanning a QR code

Four long beeps from the scanner indicates that it did not get confirmation that its message was received. Here are two things to check:
  1. Is Rhōmb Check-In currently running?
    1. Check to see if you have an icon for Rhōmb Check-In near your system date and clock (it might be hidden under a icon). If not, start Rhōmb Check-In from your Start menu.
  2. Is Rhōmb Check-In using the correct COM port?
    1. Right click the Rhōmb Check-In icon from your notification icons, then try selecting a different COM port if one is available. You may also need to select the Refresh scanner option.
