How to Set Up a Recurring Discount for Monthly Memberships

How to Set Up a Recurring Discount for Monthly Memberships

Scenario

You want to give a few customers, such as friends or family, a recurring discount on your monthly membership product. These customers should continue receiving the discounted membership every month, not just on their initial purchase.

How to Set This Up

You cannot create a promo code that offers a recurring discount, because promotion codes always apply to an entire order subtotal and never to individual line items. You can, however, set up a recurring discount for specific customers on your admin end.

1. Go to Orders > Create New Order.
2. Click Add Item and select your monthly membership product.
3. In the Add to Cart popup, edit the membership price directly to reflect the discounted rate.
4. Continue entering your customer’s billing details.
5. Place the order on behalf of the customer.

By adjusting the price during order creation, the discounted rate becomes the customer’s ongoing membership price. This means they’ll be charged the reduced amount each month automatically.
